Man gets tinnitus relief with hearing aids.

Tinnitus isn’t new. But it may be the first time you have had to deal with it. A constant buzzing or ringing is normally how tinnitus is experienced but not always. The sound can be, at times, very loud. However tinnitus manifests for you, this point is probably true: you are most likely searching for new ways of handling your tinnitus if it’s something that’s troubling you.

In that, you’re in luck because while tinnitus doesn’t yet have an overall cure, there are a few new therapies that can help you deal with symptoms. Some of those therapies even concern your tongue.

The Most Recent Way to Manage Tinnitus

Perhaps the newest tinnitus treatment that we’ve seen appears to offer quite a bit of promise, even if it appears a little strange at first. This device, developed at the Trinity College School of Medicine in Dublin, stimulates both the ear and the tongue. Bi-modal neurostimulation is the technical term for this approach.

According to the first tests of this device, the results were rather impressive. 12 weeks was about the duration that most individuals were treated. Over those 12 months, those same individuals observed a dramatic decrease in tinnitus symptoms. But this kind of therapy is still in testing and not widely available yet.

What Can I do Now to Get Tinnitus Relief?

Of course, it takes a while for technology to work their way from research and development to patient availability. So how can you manage your tinnitus right now?

There are, fortunately, some tinnitus therapy devices that has recently been released. And one of the best new methods of managing tinnitus is something you’ve likely already heard of: your hearing aid.

Here’s the way it works:

Your hearing aid can give you something else to listen to. One reason why tinnitus becomes more obvious as your hearing wanes is that the stays loud while everything else becomes quieter. The volume of the outside world is boosted by hearing aids. By raising the volume of outside sounds, your tinnitus sounds will often vanish into the background.

There is a sound masking device similar to a modern hearing aid. If your hearing loss is fairly mild, then a masking device may be the best way to address your symptoms. A hearing aid has a comparable appearance to a masking device. And some hearing aids can be enhanced with masking technology. Your tinnitus symptoms can be obscured by sounds emitted by this kind of technology. Whatever the best sound is to mask the ringing in your ears will be used, it may be a specific tone or even white noise.
